The first half was a very even affair, though York looked
very composed, both in possession and when Chesterfield had the ball. There
weren’t any clear-cut chances in the first half-hour, but when the first one
came Chesterfield (eventually) converted it. A brilliant double save from City
keeper Michael Ingham wasn’t enough as the Spireites converted at the third
attempt from close range, Sam Hird the man on hand. City hit back straight
away, Ashley Chambers' free kick forcing a diving save from Richard O’Donnell.
But soon after Michael Coulson levelled the scores, finding himself one-on-one
with the goalkeeper and chipping the ball past the on-rushing O’Donnell.
That was a deserved equaliser, but it wasn’t long until
Chesterfield re-estavlisjed their advantage. Left back Charlie Taylor, on loan
from Leeds United, failed to deal with a through ball which allowed Craig
Westcarr to slot past Ingham. After the second goal York struggled to regroup,
and the approaching half-time couldn’t come soon enough. After the break the
match became wide open. York’s earlier composure subsided as the game reached a
frantic pace. This left both teams with plentiful chances. The best for York
saw three headers, two by Chris Smith, being blocked by defenders on or around
the goal line in quick succession. As the game went on York continued to press,
but with minimal success. It seemed like the Spireites were going to escape
with all three points, but then Walker stepped up to the delight of the home
fans. City now sit 7th in League Two.
Ingham, 7, no chance with two goals and made a few good
saves including the brilliant double
Oyebanjo, 6, solid in defence and provided a threat going

York’s forward moves

clearing headers

wing and mistake led to second goal
(Fyfield - 65' ), 6, brought some composure into team when
he came on
Smith, 6, worked hard in the midfield and contributed going
forward
(Challinor - 69' ), 6, little chance to make impact after
coming on
Parslow, 7, another impressive display in the middle of the
park, very assured
Blair, 7, showed glimpses of his talent and was part of most
attacks
Walker, 7, worked hard to win the ball up front and rewarded
with well taken goal
Chambers, 6, provided creativity but sometimes frustrating
Coulson, 6, important involvement in attack and finished
goal nicely
(Reed - 81' ), 6, made his presence felt in the closing
moments
